Kobe Bryant’s rookie season jersey will be auctioned off by Golden Auctions on May 3, and it is predicted to break the record for the most expensive jersey sold.

Babe Ruth’s 1920 Yankees jersey previously set the record for the highest bid on a sports memorabilia piece, fetching $5.64 million at a Hunt’s Auctions auction in 2019.

Golden is a sports auction house located in New Jersey that has amassed over $300,000 in unique sports memorabilia associated with the late Lakers legend. Bryant’s jersey will be auctioned off until May 23.

Bryant died last year in a helicopter accident while traveling with his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and seven others.

His wife Vanessa, 38, and their children Natalia, 18, Bianka, 4, and Capri, 1, survive.

Vanessa is also responsible for maintaining her husband’s legacy. She revealed last week on Instagram that she would launch a new Mambacita clothing line on what would have been Gianna’s 15th birthday, with proceeds benefiting the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation, which works to improve the lives of young female athletes.

Vanessa wrote of the project, “When I considered the best way to celebrate Gianna’s birthday with so many people who loved her, I knew it had to combine her vibrant and pleasant personality with her sense of mission and passion for making a difference in the world.”

According to reports, the clothing line — which is being sold exclusively through Dannijo — nearly sold out on the first day.

The line was launched following the termination of a contract with Nike by Braynt’s estate. Vanessa said, “I was hoping to forge a lifelong relationship with Nike that reflected my husband’s legacy,” while Nike said, “Kobe Bryant was a critical part of Nike’s deep link with customers.” He moved us and improved everyone in his vicinity. Though our contractual relationship has concluded, he continues to be a cherished member of the Nike family.”
